How does the adhesion of silica to the main base particles improve the fluidity of the main base?

Usually, silica particles must be able to adhere to the surface of the main base particles, thereby affecting the physical properties of the main

base particles. The degree of this adhesion can be from covering the entire surface of the particles to covering part of the surface of the particles

in spots. But in any case, there is an affinity between silica particles and main base particles, and they will form an orderly mixture. Today, the

(1) Provide physical barrier effect. When the surface of the main base particles is completely covered by silica particles, due to the small

interaction between silica particles, the silica layer formed naturally becomes a physical barrier that blocks the interaction between the main base

particles. This physical barrier will lead to several results. First, silica blocks the hydrophilic substances on the surface of the main base material,

forming liquid bridges between particles due to moisture absorption or free water remaining during preparation. Second, after silica is adsorbed on

the surface of the main base material, it makes it smoother, thereby reducing the friction between particles and increasing the fluidity of the particles.

This effect is often called lubrication. Since various silicas have different properties, the lubrication effects they provide are also different.

(2) By competing with the main base material particles for moisture absorption, the main base material's tendency to absorb moisture and agglomerate

is improved. Generally speaking, silica itself has a large moisture absorption capacity, so when competing with the main base material for moisture

absorption, it will reduce the agglomeration tendency of the main base material caused by hygroscopicity.

(3) By eliminating the static charge and molecular force on the surface of the main base material, its fluidity is improved. Microencapsulated powder

particles generally have the same charge, so they will repel each other and prevent agglomeration. However, the static charge on these products often

interacts with the frictional electrostatics of production equipment or packaging materials, causing many troubles. When silica is added, it neutralizes the

charge on the surface of the main base material particles, thereby improving the fluidity of the main base material powder. This effect is often used to

explain why the fluidity of the main base material can be improved when the affinity between silica and the main base material particles is not very strong

and silica is only scattered on the surface of the main base material particles.

(4) By changing the crystal lattice of the main base material crystals, a fragile crystal structure is formed. When silica exists in the aqueous solution of the

crystallizable substance in the main base material or on the surface of the crystallized particles, it can not only inhibit the growth of the crystals, but also

change its crystal structure, thereby producing a crystal that is very fragile under the action of external force. It reduces the agglomeration of the main base

material that is prone to forming hard lumps and improves its fluidity.
