meaning it repels water. Fumed Silica is a fine, white powder that is made by burning silicon tetrachloride in a flame of 

hydrogen and oxygen. The resulting particles are very small, with a high surface area, which gives fumed silica unique 

properties.

The hydrophobic treatment of fumed silica involves coating the surface of the particles with a hydrophobic substance, such 

as a silane or silicone oil. This coating prevents water from wetting the surface of the particles, making them water-repellent.
