Silica dioxide in acrylic coating is used as Matting Agent. Silica dioxide can disperse evenly in coating and when the solvent in coating

is releasing, the thicken of coating will become thicker and at the same time, coating will shrink. The matting agent shrinks slower

than the coating, forming a microscopic uneven paint surface on the coating surface. When light enters the paint surface, it forms

diffuse reflection, thus achieving a matte effect.

The content of Silica Matting Agent and coating's gloss valume are the inversely proportional.This means when the content of silica

matting agent is higher, the coating's gloss valume will be lower.Besides, the particle size of silica matting agent will influence the

matting effect. Larger the particle size is, lower the gloss valume will be.

Silica dioxide as matting agent also has excellent optical properties and adsorption properties, and its refractive index is close to the

refractive efficiency of most resins, so it will not cause significant interference to the transparency of the paint film. In practical

applications, silica matting agent can not only reduce the gloss of the paint film, but also improve the anti-scratch and anti-adhesion

properties of the paint film.

The role of silica matting agent in acrylic paint is mainly to reduce the gloss by forming a micro-rough surface while maintaining good

optical and mechanical properties. It is suitable for preparing low-gloss matte coatings.
