The first considered point of choosing an additive in coating is reflection value. Comparing with resin's reflection value,
silica Matting Agent's reflection value is similar. And it also has excellent optical properties. At early state, people often
use Fumed Silica matting agent in coating. But gradually Precipitated Silica matting agent is instead fumed silica now due
Nowadays there are two main methods to produce silica matting agent no matter in our country or in other countries. First is
gel method, another is precipitated method.
When using gel method to produce silica matting agent, silica matting agent will have good structure, larger particle area,
higher porosity, evener particle disperation. It can help to keep coating's state stablely even in bad suitation. But it also has
weaknesses when using this method to produce silica matting agent. It will also cause the oil absorption value being lower. It
will also lead a long time aftertreatment that will cause a higher cost. When using precipitation method to produce silica matting
agent can save production cost but usually it will not perform the excellent properties like silica matting agent which is produced
by gel method. Though silica matting agent that is produced by precipitation method, its performance can be accpected by people.
What's more, using precipitation method to produce silica matting agent will get better oil absorption property.
